First off, if you have a strong opinion of religion, I might advise against reading any further, as my opinion may be very different. If you chose to read this anyways, then please be respectful in your comments. I am interested in your opinions on the matter, especially if they are different from my own.
I do not believe that any one religion is superior to another, they all have good things about them, and all have questionable practices. And people who are Agnostic or Atheist are not fundamentally bad people, they just do not see a deity as something that they can commit themselves to. As far as I am concerned, so long as your faith (or lack of) doesn't require you to kill someone, it is reasonably good.
What I am taught in school is that we are to be tolerant, no, welcoming of each others differences, in our religious differences, our political differences, and our differences in sexuality, it does not make us inherently evil or good. You want to know what I believe?
- I believe that no individual faith is any less correct than whichever one I agree with at the time.
- That the planet that we refer to as "Earth" or "Terra" was formed approximately 4.6 billion years ago.
- That Humans may not be the most intelligent of all creatures.
- That we may not be alone in the universe.
- That God exists, may even be benevolent, but chooses not to take direct action.
- That the deities of most religions may in fact be the same god, but depicted in a different manner, sometimes as one, sometimes as many.
- That science and religion can coexist. "Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind."-Albert Einstein
- That Humanity can do good, but they need to take action, more than unwritten complaints and silent prayer.
