As you probably already
know, today we had a thunderstorm. Big, dark clouds; rain; lightning;
and wind. All told, it was rather beautiful in my opinion.
Anyways, like I said, it
was a thunderstorm, and what do you know, shortly after I got home
and had sat down to relax for a few minutes and watch some TV, that
the lights flicker. It didn't seem to be anything particularly wrong,
until a few seconds later, lightning strikes within a kilometer of
out house.
You know how lightning is
usually depicted on television, in books and in comics? Well I can
honestly say that no depiction of lightning that I have ever seen can
truly capture that much power. I will give it a go by telling more or
less exactly what happened when it hit.
All I saw was red, the
entire room obscured by a blinding red light. The noise was
incredible, and went on for what was probably only a few seconds, but
felt like nearly a minute. My heart was racing, and I found that I
was in an even better mood than I was before. Not that the same could
be said for Adam and Daria, who were scared witless, so I had to call
Dad to be sure that they were alright. When Mom showed up, she helped
with the two and told me more or less where the lightning struck. I
then stuck my head out the door, and smelt ozone. It smelt, burnt for
lack of a better term.
I wanted to post this in my blog, but then I found out that our
internet connection was down, so I couldn't do much.
Then, after Dad had shown
up, left with Adam and Daria for a meeting in Reddeer, Uncle Donnie
showed up, asking to use the phone. Apparently, there was a gas leak
near his house, so he needed our phone, a ways away from the noxious
fumes, to call the city about it. Shortly after, emergency vehicles
arrived, and Mom and I went to go get dinner while we waited out the
repair job.
Then we went to the
library, and I read an actual book for the first time in a while. Not
a magazine, or some story posted online, nor was it a manga, it was
an honest to goodness, paper, hardcover, words, little to no
pictures. It was good. Then we went home and I decided to write this
whilst waiting for Dad to come home and fix the connection.
Addendum, I actually did write this yesterday, but I was unable to post cause the net was down. It's all good now. Also, today I found out that the lightning struck the tree in front of our house. Talk about a close call.
Hi, Alex
